This CD is the third release in my series of piano improvisations, Permutations of 88. Justin Potts designed the artwork for Palettes and Passages. When I decided to do an improvised recital, we hit upon the idea of collaborating – while I played, he painted, drawing instant inspiration from my improvisations (which, in turn, were inspired by who knows what). It was fun to take the concept of Palettes and sort of turn it on its head. We set up a camera to project his workspace so that the audience could see his work in real time as I performed. It was a unique creative experience, to say the least. The CD features the seven pieces of music that came out of my fingers, along with some of the art pieces that he created that night.
