This CD is the first release in my series of piano improvisations, Permutations of 88. It contains eleven tracks. Each piece was directly inspired by a painting. I sat down at the piano with an image of the painting in front of me, gathered my thoughts, and let the artwork guide my fingers.
The paintings from which I gathered inspiration are:
"Wheat Field Under Threatening Skies" (1890) by Vincent Van Gogh;
"Narcissus" (1597-1599) by Caravaggio;
"The Bricoleur's Daughter" (1987) by Mark Tansey;
"Figures in a Landscape" (1972-73) by Sidney Goodman;
"Night Burn" (1986-87) by Sidney Goodman;
"Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures)" (1971) by David Hockney;
"The Gulf Stream" (1899) by Winslow Homer;
"Man Sitting - Back View" (1964) by Wayne Thiebaud;
"In the Car" (1963) by Roy Lichtenstein;
and "Winter, 1946" (1946) by Andrew Wyeth
